1750 Ann
Captain: John Spurrier
From: Rotterdam 28 Jun 1750
Arrival: Halifax 2 or 13 Sep 1750
Full fares paid by all over the age of 14.Left with 322
passengers. Arrived with 305 passengers. Seventeen people died during the voyage
(5.3 %). An infectious fever was brought by Ann to the colonies in 1750.
A large number of the passengers on this ship came from
Nassau-Weilburg, the Palatinate (Bayern-Pfalz), Erbach, Ulm, Hessen-Darmstadt,
and Switzerland. The names have been rearranged according to place of origin
from southwest to northeast.
It is not possible to identify all the people on the ship
because often a family would take an older parent or step children who are not
easy to identify in the available sources, however an idea of the size of the
household can be identified from the number of freights listed. On this
passenger list two numbers were given, the first being the number of paying
passenger (freights and half-freights, e.g. anyone over 4) and the second being
children who went free. In some cases the total number of freights that were
paid for has been added.
The place of origin was generally the state, province, or
city-state, however in some cases a town was listed (or the town might have been
a small duchy or independent town in 1753). The actual towns of origin of these
people will be verified in the future and updated on this site as time permits.
